Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Johns

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? My journey in the business world began during my college years, where I immersed myself in hospitality through various internships and proudly represented my sorority, AOII. In 2012, I took the leap and launched my own business, driven by a passion for service and wanting people to feel celebrated. By 2015, I seized the opportunity to expand through a business asset purchase, which marked a significant turning point. Embracing calculated risks and maintaining a commitment to growth, I have transformed my business into a thriving business, reflecting both my dedication and the lessons learned along the way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?Throughout my entrepreneurial journey with Something Styled, I have faced a few challenges. One of the most pressing obstacles at the beginning of my career has been finding the right people to join my team and effectively represent the brand’s values and vision. There is an excitement when I first started to say “yes” to any help. I quickly learned that was not how I was going to operate and slowed down with who would be on our team. Additionally, the Covid pandemic posed unprecedented difficulties, requiring adaptability and resilience to navigate the shifting landscape of business operations in the hospitality industry. I quickly realized the importance of relationships and connections in the industry. Furthermore, operating in a seasonal market has presented its own set of challenges, as I constantly strive to maintain engagement and revenue throughout fluctuating demand periods. Each of these obstacles has tested my perseverance and creativity, ultimately shaping the growth and direction of my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?At Something Styled, we pride ourselves on being a boutique floral company that specializes in creating unique and personalized designs for our clients. We design for all of life celebrations and believe flowers have the power to elevate any occasion.

We have a large studio in Golden Colorado! The studio is used in many ways. It is our home base for all design. We host consultations, floral workshops, and rent it to the general public for private gatherings. We pride ourselves on having a studio location base as many florists work from home or rent benches at the flower markets. We are happy to have our own space as we know tis sets us apart from others. We are also opening our books to the south / southeast region of the USA. Our second location is in Nashville, TN. We are thrilled to work alongside other industry professionals int that specific market.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?If you are a creative hire the right people right away; attorney for contracts, CPA or bookkeeper for finances, etc. Get your ducks in a row legally before you start booking. Hire slow and fire fast! Know your why. If you choose to grow your team carefully select people who align with you and your business. Remember to have fun!
